Stanton Tunnel

Stanton Tunnel is located on the former Old Dalby Test Track (Now RIDC Melton) approximately 1⁄2 mile North of Widmerpool old station, which has one bi-directional track running through it with operational speeds up to 125mph.
To carry out the Aerodynamic and pressure pulse testing, including maximum variations of pressure in tunnels, the TSI required a tunnel without air shafts being present for the test. The three shafts in Stanton tunnel, needed to be sealed off so that during the test there was less likely to be a fluctuation in air pressure due to open shafts.

The adopted solution was to fit a rubber bladder in each of the shafts. Each individual shaft needed to be cleaned, prepared, and retaining brackets checked in order to retain the bladder within the shaft and no cause for the bladder to be punctured whilst inflated.

We worked cooperatively providing rope access for our client to achieve very successful delivery.
